📣Food Distribution Amendment — In Committee
✅Community showed up strong - ⏳In committee - ⛑️Continued advocacy needed
The proposed ordinance establishing guardrails around street food distribution was heard last week and referred to committee. Community turnout was great, with those in favor outnumbered opposition — and The Dallas Morning News published an editorial in support.
Two council members remain resistant. Continued outreach is critical. As FMSA members, we are reaching out to city council members from our CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 2 and surrounding districts to let them know we support setting guardrails around street feeding.
Let City Council Member Jesse Moreno know that YOU are in support.
🎯Renaming Cesar Chavez Blvd — FMSA Takes Action
⛔WE HAVE 0% OUT OF 100 OF SIGNATURES⛔
🖊️WE HAVE 100 SIGNATURES TO GO!
The FMSA Board is working on formally petitioning the city to rename the segment of CESAR CHAVEZ BOULEVARD running through our district to FARMERS MARKET DISTRICT. We need signatures from at least 51% OF PROPERTY OWNERS ABUTTING THE BOULEVARD in our segment to move forward.
Note: if owners representing 20% OR MORE of abutting lots submit written opposition, then a THREE-QUARTERS city council vote will be required - so building strong support early is critical.
If you own property on or adjacent to Cesar Chavez Boulevard, or know someone who does, please reach out to sign the petition or get involved.

🚃New Streetcar Line Proposed for South Dallas
The city is studying a new standalone streetcar line — separate from the existing downtown streetcar — running from the Convention Center through the Cedars to Fair Park via MLK Blvd. FMSA supports transit investment in our neighboring districts and sees this as a moment to advocate for extending the existing streetcar into our own community. Survey closes May 6, 2026. Fill it out and advocate for transit connectivity in our community too. You can still review the questions here. SURVEY QUESTIONS
